Over eighty former employees of BCM Ghana Limited, who claim they were unfairly dismissed, are urging an immediate investigation into what they describe as unjust terminations of contract.
They are appealing to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and other relevant state bodies to intervene and seek justice for affected workers, aiming to rectify perceived victimisation within the mining sector.
Meanwhile, BCM Ghana Limited, in a press statement, has refuted these allegations.
Speaking at a press conference to highlight the grievances of the aggrieved former workers, a former Human Resource Manager at BCM Ghana Limited, Mr Simon Terbobri, emphasised the prevalence of wrongful dismissals within the company.
He called upon the relevant authorities to intervene and protect the rights of employees.
“In the first place what we are looking out for is that these people are well compensated and given what is due them. The second thing is to draw attention to mismanagement and unfair treatment of employees within the company.”
Meanwhile, BCM Ghana Limited has firmly denied these allegations of unfair treatment and victimisation of former employees, deeming these claims baseless and aimed at damaging the company’s reputation.
In a press statement dated June 19, the company highlighted that its contract at Tarkwa is set to end in December 2024, alongside a decline in production volumes and revenues, necessitating a downsizing of operations.
The company further clarified that the reduction in staff was conducted through voluntary departures, non-renewal of expiring contracts, and contract terminations, all in compliance with employment contracts and local labour laws.
