Ghana is set to host the first ever Cancer Survivors Gala on June 29 at the Airport View Hotel in Accra.
This landmark celebration, organised by the Cancer Support Network Foundation (CSNF), aims to honour the resilience of cancer survivors and highlight the reality that cancer survival is possible in Ghana.
Founded by Dr Juliet Appiah Quansah, a medical oncologist based in the USA, the CSNF has brought hope to many sufferers of the disease and their families.
The foundation not only supports financially disadvantaged cancer patients in accessing treatment but also focuses on educating the public about cancer prevention and awareness.
Dr Quansah’s commitment to the cause is further demonstrated through the foundation’s periodic free cancer screening programmes, which have benefited numerous individuals across the country.
The gala, an exclusive event by invitation only, promises to be a gathering of significant stakeholders in the fight against cancer.
Attendees will include cancer survivors, esteemed medical practitioners, and high-ranking representatives from the Ministry of Health and the National Health Insurance Authority.
Their presence underscores the event’s importance and the collaborative efforts needed to combat cancer.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the inspiring testimonials from cancer survivors.
These individuals will share their personal journeys, detailing the challenges they faced and the strength they found to overcome the disease.
Their stories are expected to provide hope and encouragement to others battling cancer and to reinforce the message that survival is indeed possible.
The gala is the culmination of a series of events throughout June, a month globally dedicated to celebrating cancer survivorship.
These events have included educational forums at Senior High Schools, awareness campaigns, and free screenings, all aimed at increasing public knowledge and fostering a supportive community for those affected by cancer.
As the anticipation builds for the Cancer Survivors gala, Dr Quansah expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “This event is a testament to the strength and resilience of our survivors. It is also a call to action for all of us to continue supporting each other in the fight against cancer.”
“We are here to celebrate life, hope, and the endless possibilities that lie ahead.”
