The Northern Chapter of the United Voice for Change (UVC) has pledged to join the #DumsorMustStop vigil on June 8, organized by Yvonne Nelson, to demand an end to the persistent power outages in Ghana.
The group, led by Regional Coordinator, Prof. Azeko Tahiru Salifu, during a press briefing, expressed deep concern about the current state of affairs regarding the frequent power outages, which have been crippling the nation’s productivity and causing job losses.
According to the group, the power outages have been affecting daily lives and the government must take a stand to address this critical issue.
The UVC has called on the government and the Ministry of Energy to provide answers to the current state of power situation in the country.
The group has also pledged its support to join the #DumsorMustStop vigil on June 8 and is urging all concerned citizens to stand in solidarity with them.
The UVC has also called on all political parties, including the media, to join hands with them in this fight against “Dumsor”.
The group is hoping that by standing together, they can collectively demand an end to the power outages and ensure that the government takes concrete steps to address this critical issue.
“As a non-partisan group, the United Voice for Change is deeply concerned about the current state of affairs regarding the frequent power outages that have been crippling the nation’s productivity, affecting jobs and causing immense frustration among our people. The impact of this power outage on our daily lives cannot be understated and we must take a stand to ensure that the government of the day addresses this critical issue.”
“We are about to embark on the same tangent as we did in the erstwhile Mahama administration where pressure upon pressure from us as Ghanaians later witnessed an investment of 567 million dollars to strengthen the electricity of Ghana. We are calling on every concerned citizen and all political parties, including the media to stand in solidarity with us during this vigil in Accra.”
The organizers of the #DumsorMustStop vigil, which was initially scheduled to take place on May 25, have announced that the protest will now go ahead on June 8, 2024.
The move comes after the Ghana Police Service filed an injunction application to halt the vigil, citing concerns about the proximity of the protest location to a security installation.
The organizers, led by Henry Osei, held a press conference on Wednesday, June 5, where they confirmed that all issues with the police have been resolved.
The #DumsorMustStop vigil, initially scheduled for May 25, was postponed due to a police injunction.
However, the organizers have resolved the issues with the police and confirmed that the protest will proceed on June 8.
The police have assured maximum protection for peaceful protest.
