Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister of Roads and Highways, has announced the upcoming launch of a call centre and a maintenance app.
These platforms will allow the public to report road defects for prompt attention.
This announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the newly appointed Chairman of the Road Fund Management Board, held in Accra on Thursday.
“We are also aware of public concerns, regarding potholes and related issues, road effects. So in the next coming days or weeks, the ministry intends to, roll out a programme where the public can report, road defects through, call center and a maintenance app with a view to letting the part the public participate in it so that you have a system here that can also address this with, defect,” he stated.
Furthermore, Asenso-Boakye highlighted the significant investment in road construction by the Akufo Addo administration, surpassing that of the previous government.
He pointed out that from 2009 to 2016, the road network was expanded by 4,636 km. However, the current administration has added 12,800 km of roads, marking a significant increase.
“I’m sure all of you are aware that the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has prioritised road development road infrastructure development since its assumption of office, and we do so with the understanding that road infrastructure development is a necessary precondition for any serious socioeconomic development. It doesn’t just connect people, but it promotes trade, economic activities, tourism and that is why this government has invested.”
“In fact, this government has invested in road construction more than any other government and it has upgraded the network substantially. In fact, three times more than the previous administration. Just on record that between 2,009 to 2016, 4,636 kilometers were added to the network, road network. But since 2017 to date, 12,800 kilometers have been added to the network. So, this is substantially way above what we’ve seen in the past,” he stated.
