Members of the locked-up investment holders forum are once again picketing the Finance Ministry demanding payment of their locked-up funds in insolvent financial institutions.
The group made up of clients of NDK Financial Services, Bond Savings and Loans, and SIC Life Savings and Loans gathered at the Finance Ministry for the eighth time since May 15 demanding financing assurances from the Finance Ministry to facilitate the revocation of licences by the Bank of Ghana, enabling the payment of depositors’ funds.
The convenor for the forum, Dr Adu Anane Antwi, speaking to the Channel One News, revealed that they are working with an Member of Parliament (MP) to present their petition to the floor of Parliament.
According to the group, they have received assurances from both sides of the house that their matter will be processed, and they will be invited to sign and formalise the petition for presentation to the Speaker.
He expressed disappointment at the Minister for Finance for the reluctant response despite assurances made during their second picketing.
“We are working with an MP to get the petition presented to the floor of parliament to the minister. So that’s what we are working on. I don’t want to disclose the names now, but yesterday we were there to speak to both sides of the house. And there is a complete agreement with us that they will put our matter in the normal process so when it is finished, they will ask us to come and sign and then it will be presented formally to the speaker.”
“The ministry hasn’t even bothered to even call anybody at all Since the last time that we came here, the second that was I think on the 12th of June, that we were called to say the Minister and the Deputy were in the country, but they have gone for a workshop, and they will call us after they have come from the worship. Nothing has been heard from them, absolutely nothing and that’s not a good sign of even showing respect for people who are picketing, at least.”
