Ali Inusah, a former herder who made headlines as the valedictorian of the 2021 graduating class at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has reached another significant milestone in his academic journey.
A beneficiary of the Citi Opportunity Project on Education (COPE), Ali’s inspiring story continues as he graduates as an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG).
On Saturday, October 12, Ali completed the rigorous 14 ICAG examinations, joining 282 other graduates in receiving their certifications.
This achievement marks yet another step in his remarkable academic journey, which has seen him rise from humble beginnings to becoming a recognized figure in Ghana’s educational and professional landscape.
Reflecting on his latest success, Ali expressed a profound sense of pride and accomplishment.
“I feel very proud. It is a moment of joy and pride that the sacrifices and hard work have paid off. It is a dream come true for me to graduate from the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), for which I am very happy. It is also a reflection of all the determination that I worked with.
“The journey has been an interesting one. The only thing that kept me going was the passion and the determination to one day graduate as a chartered accountant and that kept me going. Having to combine work and learning was not easy, but determination is always key when you have a goal to achieve.
“At the moment, I am engaged professionally as a staff of Deloitte Ghana and I hope to improve myself and gain valuable insight and experiences in the industry. So, what lies ahead is even a bigger challenge and I am willing to stand up to it and make sure that at the end of the day, I am successful in what I do,” he stated.
Grateful for the support he received throughout his journey, Ali expressed appreciation for his family, friends, and the team at Citi FM/Channel One, whose COPE initiative provided crucial support during his undergraduate studies at UPSA.
“There are a lot of people I would like to thank for this fate; it is a tall list. I would like to thank my immediate family, all those who have supported me, the ICAG itself and a special mention to Ms Opoku Duodo, who gave me the idea to undertake this programme.
“The people at Citi FM/ Channel One and the Citi Opportunity Project on Education (COPE) who supported me throughout my degree programme at UPSA, helped me to transfer all the determination to this programme as well as the lot of other people who have helped me to this day,” he stated.
Ali’s elder brother, Umaru Inusah, also shared in the joy of the day, recalling how a chance meeting with Citi FM’s journalist Umaru Sanda in 2017 changed the trajectory of Ali’s life.
“I don’t even have the words to express how happy I am today, it is one of the happiest days in my life to see my brother go through all this struggle and today he has graduated. We give thanks to the almighty God and all who helped him to reach this level.
“From day one and now, looking at how everything is unfolding, there is success in the future. As you can see, today marks the beginning of success,” he stated.
Umaru Sanda Amadu, the broadcast journalist who discovered Ali, reflected on the impact of COPE, which aims to support brilliant but underprivileged students.
“The Citi Opportunity Project on Education (COPE), a project by Citi FM, has been set up solely to support brilliant but needy students into universities. The story of Ali Inusah is one that you can describe as a victorious one among the lot, given what we have done so far.
“Today, as a company and to me personally, I am excited and I feel blessed because I could say that I was behind this discovery and Citi FM took this up. For him to have achieved so many successes within this short period tells you that if it hadn’t absorbed him and supported him, you can imagine the talent and knowledge that we were wasting.
“This is the doing of the lord almighty and he uses Citi FM as an instrument of projecting and supporting people, who otherwise would have been suffering. Today, he is excelling brilliantly and for me, it is something I am excited to see through and it is a great day really,” he stated.
