Adenta Kumi charged with publication of false news

Alfred Ababio Kumi, a youth activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former parliamentary aspirant, has been charged with publication of false news following his arrest by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on Friday.

Adenta Kumi, as he is widely known, has been accused of making false claims both on his X (formerly Twitter) account and during a radio interview, in connection with a petition he submitted to the President.

He is at the centre of a petition calling for the dissolution of the committee investigating the Chief Justice.

In the petition, Kumi alleges misconduct that he believes could compromise the integrity of the inquiry.

Specifically, he claims that on May 15, 2025, following the committee’s inaugural sitting, Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu, along with Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi, were seen dining with Thaddeus Sory, counsel for petitioner Daniel Ofori, at Santoku Restaurant in Accra’s Airport Residential Area.

He further alleged that the group was overheard discussing matters related to the petition.

Meanwhile, the NPP has raised concerns over the arrest and detention of Adenta Kumi.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, speaking on Citi Prime News expressed outrage over the handling of Kumi’s arrest.

“Well, certainly we think it is linked to the petition until the NIB comes out with a different reason because that is what we all know—that he has petitioned the President this week and is yet to receive an acknowledgment of it,” he stated.
