“Ghanaians, Rise!” — Wontumi calls for resistance against Mahama govt

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has accused President John Dramani Mahama’s administration of unfair treatment and political persecution.

This follows an attempted raid on his house by officers from the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Police Service on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Friday, May 23, Chairman Wontumi called on NPP supporters and Ghanaians to rise against what he describes as deliberate suppression.

“Am I not a Ghanaian anymore? Now that you’ve won the election and become President, does that mean I’m no longer a Ghanaian?” Wontumi questioned, expressing frustration over the government’s alleged targeting of his businesses and personal assets.

Addressing party supporters, he rallied them to stand firm. “Ghanaians, rise! Arise, Ghanaians! All NPP supporters should rise. It is because of you that Mahama is treating me this way,” he declared.

Wontumi dismissed any suggestion that he held a privileged political or governmental position, emphasising that he was merely a party chairman fulfilling his duty to campaign for the NPP.

“Was I ever a Vice President? Have I ever chaired a board? Have I ever been a CEO? Was I ever a minister?” he asked rhetorically, reinforcing his claim that his persecution is unwarranted.

He further alleged economic sabotage against him by the Mahama-led administration, accusing the government of crippling his businesses.

“You collapsed my business back in 2013. Since you assumed office, you’ve halted all my operations. Even the bank account I rely on has been frozen,” he lamented.
