A journalist with Kumasi-based Wontumi FM, Emmanuel Kwakye Asare, has been granted bail after spending two weeks in police custody.

He was arrested on August 12, 2025, and charged with one count of offensive conduct in connection with the publication of alleged false news with the intent to cause fear and panic.

The court granted him bail in the sum of GH₵100,000 with two sureties, both of whom are required to be civil servants.

His legal team is currently working to complete the necessary processes to finalize the bail conditions.

Asare is expected to reappear before the court on September 1, 2025, as the case continues.

In his allegation, the radio presenter alleged on his programme that President John Dramani Mahama knew about the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that killed eight people.

The prosecution opposed bail, citing ongoing investigations.

Presiding Judge Samuel Bright Acquah ruled that although he had no reason to deny bail, he was guided by judicial precedence, recalling a similar case where a young man was remanded for insulting then-President Akufo-Addo.
