The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has admonished members of the Service to demonstrate integrity and professionalism in combating crime across the country, including illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
According to him, despite the challenges involved in crime-fighting operations — which have resulted in the loss of about 20 officers in the line of duty in 2025 — personnel must remain firm, disciplined, and resolute in enforcing the law.
Speaking during a ceremony to promote members of the Special Investigative Team that probed the 2020 and 2024 election violence, as well as the IGP’s Anti-Galamsey Task Force, at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno stressed the need for officers to uphold integrity, courage, and loyalty to the Service in the discharge of their duties.
“This selfless work, determination, and perseverance are what we are talking about, and that is what we want the over 49,000 police personnel who are working in the field to learn: that hard work pays. Don’t do it for the sight of anybody but do it from your heart, and it will come to a time God will reward your hard work,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of officers of the Special Anti-Galamsey Task Force set up by the Inspector-General of Police, who were promoted, Superintendent of Police Bawah Abdul Jalil assured the IGP of their continued commitment and support in the fight against illegal mining and other forms of crime.
“The team was deployed to the Ashanti Region with 105 men, with the focus of bringing sanity to the area. There were instances where we were confronted with situations, especially with the seizure of excavators.
“We were confronted with attacks. We received gunshots, but fortunately, the situation came under control. The evidence is out there for Ghanaians to judge,” he said.
Also speaking on behalf of the Special Investigative Team that probed the 2020 and 2024 elections, Chief Superintendent of Police John Kwaku Lodonu said that although some prosecutions have been secured, the team remains focused on ensuring that all election-related offences are thoroughly investigated and dealt with in accordance with the law.
