Bawumia was unhappy at NPP Peace Pact event – Sammi Awuku

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has acknowledged that former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was unhappy during the party’s Peace Pact signing ceremony.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV, Mr. Awuku said Dr. Bawumia has raised concerns about developments within the party ahead of the presidential primary, particularly regarding the enforcement of the contest’s rules.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia believes he has been subjected to sustained attacks across various campaign platforms and that, despite repeated complaints, party leadership has failed to take decisive action to ensure neutrality, respect, and decorum among the aspirants.

Mr. Awuku also pointed to the Presidential Elections Committee’s decision to disallow proxy voting in the presidential primary as one of the major issues, arguing that the move is impractical and has effectively disenfranchised hundreds of Dr. Bawumia’s supporters in the diaspora.

“Obviously, he wasn’t happy. He hasn’t been happy about a few developments. He believes that the Presidential Elections Committee and the party are not playing on an equal playing field when it comes to enforcing the rules of the game.

“Looking at his countenance and demeanor, he is human. He cannot pretend when all is not well. It is clear. Some decisions of the Presidential Elections Committee have some implications on the party,” he stated.

Mr. Awuku maintained that Dr. Bawumia’s dissatisfaction is justified under the circumstances, stressing the need for party leadership to address the concerns in order to preserve unity ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31.
