The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has condemned a viral video showing a woman being violently assaulted in Cape Coast, describing the act as “cruel” and punishable under the law.
In the disturbing footage circulating on social media, a man is seen attacking the woman and subjecting her to further physical harm.
In a statement dated March 29, 2026, the ministry said: “The Ministry unequivocally condemns this cruel act and strongly reiterates that violence in any form, against any person, is unacceptable and punishable by law,” the statement said.
It added that such acts constitute serious offences under Ghana’s Domestic Violence Act, 2007, and the Criminal Offences Act, 1960.
The Ministry said it had begun efforts to reach the victim and had obtained a telephone number believed to be hers, but attempts to make contact had so far been unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the sector minister, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has referred the case to the Ghana Police Service for “urgent investigation and appropriate action.”
The Ministry said it would continue to strengthen interventions and collaborate with key stakeholders to prevent violence and promote a safer and more inclusive society.
It also urged the public to report cases of abuse through its Helpline of Hope Call Centre.
The incident adds to growing concern over gender-based violence in Ghana, particularly cases amplified by social media, and raises questions about enforcement and victim protection.
