The Chief of Salman, Nana Kwamena Bentum II, has defended Adamus Resources Limited, insisting that the company is not involved in illegal mining activities and should not have its licence revoked.
Speaking on recent developments surrounding the revocation of the company’s mining lease on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, April 28, the chief expressed strong disagreement with the government’s decision, arguing that any concerns should have been addressed through dialogue rather than cancellation.
“What wrong has she [Angela List, CEO of Adamus] done for you to revoke her licence? I disagree with the government. If there are issues that are not going well, sit down and talk to her,” he said.
He stressed that allegations linking the company to galamsey activities were inaccurate, adding that Adamus has actually played a role in preventing illegal mining in the area.
“But you say she is involved in galamsey; she is not involved in any galamsey,” he stated.
Nana Bentum II said he was disappointed by the revocation of the lease, describing the decision as difficult to understand given the company’s contribution to local livelihoods.
He explained that Adamus Resources, through its Chief Executive Officer, has created employment opportunities for about 1,200 people and continues to support economic activity in the area.
According to him, the company has also assisted communities with cooperative mining arrangements in Ellembelle, while discussions are ongoing to extend similar initiatives to Salman.
He further noted that illegal mining remains a challenge in some areas, but said Adamus has been actively discouraging such activities and promoting more organised mining systems.
The chief questioned the rationale behind the revocation, arguing that the company’s operations have helped sustain livelihoods in the community.
