Nana Agyei Baffour-Awuah, the lawyer for Charles Bissue, the former secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), was unable to get the court to rescind its decision to have him [Mr. Baffour-Awuah] cross-examined.
This update was posted on the Facebook page of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
At the last adjourned date, the court granted the OSP permission to cross-examine Nana Agyei Baffour-Awuah.
This decision was made in response to an affidavit submitted by Mr. Baffour-Awuah, claiming that the Office had obtained a warrant for Bissue’s arrest.
According to the OSP, Mr. Baffour-Awuah had failed to produce such evidence in court “because it does not exist.”
The Court also issued an injunction preventing the Office from arresting Mr. Bissue for ten days.
Following the court’s directive, Bissue’s lawyer was also supposed to submit his written submissions for the case.
However, in its update, the OSP stated that Mr. Baffour-Awuah failed to do so, citing a torn ligament as the reason, and requested additional time.
The Court subsequently adjourned the case to February 1, 2024, during which time the lawyer for Bissue is expected to have filed his written submission and be fit to be cross-examined.
The OSP is prosecuting Mr. Bissue for suspected corruption within the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining.
In an interview with citinewsroom.com, Mr. Awuah insisted that the court did not quash his application.
“I was the one to be cross-examined and not Charles Bissue, I have not been well, and that is why I also asked for extra time to file my submission,” Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah explained.
