The Omanhene of the Wenchi Traditional Area, Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III has noted that his outfit will collaborate with the Wenchi Municipal Assembly to improve the state of sanitation in the Wenchi Municipality, calling for the enforcement of by-laws on sanitation by the Municipal Assembly.
Osagyefo Tabrako III disclosed this when his outfit, in collaboration with the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, organized a maiden clean-up exercise and sensitization campaign on the need for the inhabitants to help fight the unsanitary conditions in the Wenchi township.
Wenchi, like other towns across the country, has challenges with sanitation. The exercise was intended to set the tone for other clean-up exercises that will be organized by the Wenchi Traditional Council and the Municipal Assembly in the year and in the years ahead.
“I become disturbed when I see filth all around, especially polythene bags. The Traditional Council has met with the Municipal Assembly and other stakeholders to deliberate on how we can formulate some by-laws to help improve sanitation. I aim to make Wenchi the cleanest town in the Bono Region and even beyond.”
Nana Ntabrako III noted that his outfit will collaborate with the Assembly to ensure the enforcement of the by-laws to keep Wenchi clean.
“The traditional council will support the enforcement of the sanitation by-laws, which will be led by the Municipal Assembly.”
Hundreds of inhabitants of Wenchi, including the young and the old, various keep-fit clubs, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, and other security agencies, all joined Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III and his elders in the maiden clean-up exercise in the Wenchi township.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Wenchi, Alexander Obour Damoah, speaking to Citi News said, “We will collaborate with the Traditional council to ensure Wenchi is clean. We will also be training the newly elected Assembly Members on the role they could play to improve sanitation in their respective electoral areas.”
The Head Pastor of the Church of Pentecost in Wenchi, Pastor Samuel Aboagye Yirenkyi, who participated in the clean-up exercise, commended the Wenhimanhene for the initiative to keep the town clean.
“This is what we expect from our leaders. I am very happy with the initiative from Nana. As Christians, we know cleanliness is next to Godliness.”
The Chief Executive of PMC Africa Limited, Alhaji Abdalla Ahmed Abdalla, on his part said, “This is the first time at my age I have seen the Omanhene organizing such an exercise. Leaders in their respective areas should organize such a series at least once a month to keep their environment clean.”
