John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that January 7, 2025, will mark the beginning of liberation for teachers in Ghana.
According to the leader of the opposition party, if elected to office in the 2024 general elections, teachers will be freed from what he perceives as oppression by the current government.
Mahama asserts that teachers have been silenced from voicing criticisms against the government despite the myriad challenges plaguing the educational system, particularly at the basic level.
He lamented the prevailing issues faced by both teachers and students, citing them as significant obstacles hindering the growth and development of Ghana’s educational system.
Speaking at Jasikan in the Buem Constituency of the Oti Region as part of his building the ‘Ghana we want tour’, John Mahama indicated that he will prioritize the needs of teachers if voted.
“Ghanaians should be able to express themselves and criticize the government if things are going wrong. But this government hates criticisms, headmasters are not able to voice out issues confronting them in schools.”
Teachers and headmasters who teach our kids in schools, your freedom is near. Your second independence starts 7th January 2025, if I’m elected. Next year is the beginning of your freedom of expression. Nobody will arrest you if you speak against me if elected in the 2024 polls. Nobody will transfer you if things are not going right and you criticize my next government.”
