The long-suffering of the residents of the Fuo community in the Tamale north constituency over water scarcity is expected to improve after the completion of work on the dredging of their One Village One Dam project.
The project which was roped around the age-long Fuo Dam, saw the expansion of the dam under the 1V1D project some years ago.
Some residents who spoke to CitiNews during the sod-cutting ceremony of the dredging project led by the NPP parliamentary candidate, Ahaji Abdul Rahman Alidu Abreh, described the initiative as a step toward salvaging the people of Fuo from water-borne diseases.
Arishetu Iddrisu, a resident of Fuo who spoke to CitiNews, recounts the polluted water from the Dam and their inability to use it for some time now.
“The milky nature of water from our dam has been a major challenge to women and children, especially in this community. We buy a drum of water at GH¢15 and sometimes commute long distances in search of water” she stated.
She further commended the Parliamentary candidate for taking the initiative to dredge the dam to ensure it stores enough water after the rainy season.
The assemblyman for the Fuo electoral area, Iddrisu Mohammed Sadat, commended the parliamentary candidate for the effort with a call on community members to support the project.
He also called for support from philanthropists to help fence the dam when it’s completed, to prevent animals from sharing the water with residents.
On his part, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Abreh touted the project as an opportunity to help the constituents live a more comfortable and healthy life upon completion.
The parliamentary candidate for Tamale North also took the initiative to clear heaps of refuse at the Kalpohin community to help promote proper sanitation.
