The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed its preparedness to initiate discussions with the three pre-tertiary teacher unions that have recently ended their two-week-old strike.
The strike, initiated on March 20, 2024, resulted in a halt of academic activities across various basic and secondary schools.
In a media briefing in Accra on Tuesday, the Director-General of the service, Dr Eric Nkansah, reassured the unions that issues about conditions of service will be addressed.
“This is pleasant news indeed and I want to take the opportunity to applaud them for calling off this strike to pave the way for us to continue with negotiations.”
“As we have indicated time and again. As management of GES, we will continue to work in the interest of our staff. So, we thank them dearly for calling off the strike and we are going to get into the negotiations right away,” he stated.
