Residents of the Sangbara community in the Chereponi district in the Northern region, have conveyed their apprehensions regarding the Agenda 111 hospital project which has stalled since September 2021.
Speaking during a press conference at the location of the stalled project, on Friday, May 3, the residents urged the president to take immediate action to ensure the project is completed.
The Agenda 111 hospital project, which is a flagship initiative of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, was aimed at improving healthcare accessibility. However, despite promises from the president to commission several hospitals, progress has remained minimal in many districts nationwide.
Speaking to Citi News at the conference, a key organiser, Kojo Mahamudu, emphasised the potential electoral repercussions for the NPP in areas where the project remains incomplete.
Among several community members who convened at the conference was a member of the Assembly for the Chereponi East electoral area, Abass Yaw Issifu, who shared similar sentiments with the masses.
“We are appealing to the President, the DCE, the MP, this is the community of Sangbara. We are appealing for support for the Agenda 111 project. When you look at things, it started in 2021, and up till now, nothing has been done to show that the project is ongoing.
“When we look at our neighbours around, all started at the same time, in fact, they are almost coming to an end. Why our place? Why Chereponi? The reason is that, when you look at Yendi, it’s almost completed, Nalerigu is almost completed. Our nearest neighbour which is Saboba, they are almost done.
“We are appealing to the President to come to our aid and support us with the ongoing project which is impending,” said the Assembly member, Abass Yaw Issifu.
