Users of the Santeo-Adjei Kojo road have lamented over the dilapidated state of the road, slowing the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
The road has no asphalt and turns muddy during a heavy downpour.
In most instances, vehicles get stuck in the mud, which leads to passengers having to step down and push the vehicle to aid in its mobility from the sludge.
In an interview with Citi News, the Assemblyman for Santeo Anyaeshi, Peter Kisseh stated that the deteriorating road conditions have exacerbated criminal activities in the area.
“They have to do the road for us and our light issue. We also don’t have a Police post. If we have a challenge, unless you go to Katamanso or Gate, Nanakrom or Kanewu, those places are about two kilometres away from our place. By the time you call the Police, the robbers would have completed their task already. To be frank, the Assembly voted me into power, four months ago.
“The constituency is huge. We have 18 assembly members in the constituency and from our side to Kpone, you can only imagine. They cannot attend to all the others before coming to our aide. The fault is not from the assembly, it’s from the constituency.
“The government is supposed to construct the road for us. The assembly would have been able to fix it if it was a feeder road, but here lies the case it is a major road. The government would have to assign it to a constructor,” he stated.
Traders who have had to step down from a broken-down commercial vehicle emphasized the effects of the deplorable state of the road.
“The condition of the road has further deteriorated and during rainy days, commercial drivers refuse to use it, leaving us at the station. As a result, we struggle to find transportation home from the market and often get stuck at the lorry station,” said a trader.
“We urge the authorities to repair the road so that vehicles in good condition can travel on it.” said another passage,” another trader added.
Drivers of commercial vehicles also shared their experiences on the usage of the road.
“The potholes filled with rainwater are deep and caused my vehicle to break down. The road is in a very deplorable state and we’ve been enduring its poor condition for far too long. The authorities must address this situation, especially during this rainy season,” said a driver.
“I heard Bernard Avle and Richard Sky on the radio mention that the road has been assigned to a contractor. However, we continue to suffer on this road with frequent armed robberies targeting traders. Action needs to be taken promptly,” another driver complained.
