Naana Eyiah Quansah, the Deputy Interior Minister, is encouraging labour unions, government institutions, and the public to use peaceful and lawful means to voice their concerns.
Her remarks come in the wake of recent violent incidents during the limited voter registration exercise, as well as industrial actions and protests that have become increasingly common in the run-up to the 2024 General Election.
She underscored the importance of prudence, pointing out that these occurrences could potentially jeopardise democratic progress.
While inaugurating the National Elections Response Group (NERG) by the West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) in Accra on Wednesday, she reassured that her department will continue to safeguard the nation’s security.
“…We must all [resort] to peaceful and lawful avenues available,” she stated.
In the meantime, Samuel Tetteh, the Deputy Commissioner responsible for Operations at the Electoral Commission, emphasised the commission’s dedication to working with stakeholders to guarantee a fair and free election.
“We on our part are prepared to deliver to the good people of Ghana a credible free, fair and transparent elections,” he added.
