Commuters and residents along the Aplaku-Bortianor-Nyanyano road are frustrated by the deteriorating condition of their roads.
The road according to residents, is also fast becoming an economic, health, and security concern due to its dusty and deplorable state, with some residents complaining of attacks on the stretch due to the slow movement of vehicles.
Despite the assembly’s work to improve the roads and the drains, some residents want the road project expedited.
The Old Winneba Road was renamed after Ghana’s late President John Evans Atta Mills in October 2014 to honour his memory by the Ga South Assembly.
Close to 10 years after the renaming of the road to Prof. Mills’ bypass, concerns are rife as to whether the current state of the road befits the memory of the late President.
The pothole-ridden road connects commuters to areas such as Aplaku, Bortianor, Nyanyano, Kokrobite, and its environs. The road also leads to popular resort destinations such as Bojo Beach.
Channel One News came across vehicles that had broken down after hitting some potholes on the stretch.
In an interview with ChannelOne News, some drivers complained about how the bad state of the road is draining their income due to how frequently they have to maintain their vehicles, adding that the road is completely unmotorable when it rains.
They also lament the significant rise in transportation costs due to the state of the road.
The huge potholes in the road are not only affecting the easy and smooth movement of commuters but are also fast becoming a health, economic, and security concern.
Contractors were seen on site constructing a 4.8 km drain on both sides of the road, after which road maintenance work will take place.
