The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) has established a task force to tackle the sanitation challenges facing the region.
The task force, comprising 30 individuals nominated by various chiefs, will be responsible for monitoring and raising public awareness of good sanitation practices.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwarteri Titus-Glover, in an interview on the sidelines of the inaugural meeting of the regional coordination council, on Thursday, July 18, explained that the initiative aims to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
“It’s all going to support the sustenance, for example, what we have seen in the last few weeks, they are doing a review of what we have done.
“And each is presenting 30 people, and these are going to be 70 guards at specific locations to ensure that people don’t litter around. When they’re caught, they just hand them over to the police. So, they are going to be like sanitation police on the ground at strategic places and these people are going to be supported with small allowances,” he further indicated.
