The Suame Magazine Spare Parts Dealers Association’s leadership is urging the government to penalise artisans who operate directly on the road, leading to engine oil spillage on the newly constructed road, part of the Suame interchange project.
This appeal comes in response to warnings from Rango Construction consultants, the project’s contractors, who caution that continuous engine oil spillage will harm the road and shorten its lifespan.
The Suame interchange project, a four-tier interchange, commenced in March 2023 and is slated for completion in March 2027.
President Akufo-Addo initiated the project in October 2022.
On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the president inspected the project’s progress, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring its timely completion.
To maintain the project properly, the contractors have implored spare parts dealers to refrain from spilling engine oil on it, expressing concerns about potential road deterioration.
During a stakeholder engagement, including artisans and drivers at Suame Magazine, resident engineer Dennis Kusi Boateng highlighted some challenges and the measures being taken to address them.
He indicated that they might resort to prosecuting individuals or companies obstructing their work if necessary.
He also reassured their commitment to completing the work within the scheduled timeframe.
