The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) Chapter of the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professionals (GFAHP) has expressed frustration over delays by the management of the KBTH in establishing a directorate to oversee their affairs.
Despite their efforts to push for action from management, their requests have been ignored, and they were surprised to see a job advertisement for Deputy Medical Affairs Director for Allied Health, a role not legally recognised.
The Chapter noted that similar directorates have been established in other hospitals, such as the Tamale Teaching Hospital, which raises questions about the reasons for the delay at Korle Bu.
Speaking to Channel One News, the Vice President of the chapter, Edward Ayem warned that if their meeting with the hospital on July 26, 2024, fails to yield positive outcomes, they will be compelled to go on strike.
“Tamale Teaching Hospital has established a directorate for Allied Health. The Ho Teaching Hospital has also established the directorate for Allied Health. Now, as you know, the biggest of the Teaching hospitals is KBTH. So, we have been wondering when KBTH will follow suit. We are wearing red bands, we are wearing red bands, all of us in the hospital.”
“…The board invited us to a meeting on the 26th, which is next week Friday. We will show up at the meeting though, but as it is, our roadmap will still go on. If, and hopefully the strike is going to be after the meeting on the 26th. So hopefully, if we have this meeting and we are told that the advertisement for the Allied Health Directorate is going to be put out and the one currently in circulation is going to be withdrawn, we will hold off on all the other items on our roadmap, otherwise, we will continue,” he stated.
