Alhaji Shani Abdul Razak, the former Northern Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on stakeholders involved in the peace acquisition process to supply the National Peace Council (NPC) with accurate and impartial reports in preparation for the upcoming December elections.
He emphasised the importance of stakeholders refraining from political bias in their duties, as it could potentially compromise the nation’s peace.
Alhaji Razak made these remarks during the inauguration of a two-day training session on “Early Warning and Response Mechanisms to Prevent Violent Extremism and Electoral-Related Violence” in Tamale on Monday.
The event, organised by the NPC in partnership with the Catholic Relief Services and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, gathered about 30 participants from the five regions of northern Ghana.
Alhaji Razak pointed out that providing accurate and unbiased reports would enable the council to address issues effectively without any adverse effects.
“Where you have reporters being biased then it is going to have a problem on the actions that are going to be taken. So, it is important that they give reports that are credible, that are fair, that would meet the expectations of those who are going to take action that would result in the changes that we want and the results that we all yearn for,” he stated.
Adding “I did also caution them to make sure that their reports can be very timely. We are dealing with early warnings. So, when the reports come timely then appropriate actions can be taken to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.”
