Ghanaian rap giant, Michael Owusu Addo, known in showbiz as Sarkodie, has called on the youth in Africa to help build the better future they desire to see for their countries.
Sarkodie who expressed disappointed in the leadership of African governments, wrote in a Facebook post, reposing hope in the power of the youth to change the narrative.
“Until we have the leadership we’ve been waiting for … “the youth” let’s make the best out of the little we have let’s not be distracted. We have a big task on us “The Youth.” Let’s go back to the days of dreams !!! The ones that seemed impossible …,” he posted.
According to the rapper, Africa lags behind in development because the citizens have ill perceptions about politics, a weakness that has been the basis of exploitation by the Western world.
“The new generation should start researching and change our “brainwashed” thinking on politics or else Africa will stay way back until the end of time. The western world knows our weakness and they ride on that … We are never a threat to them but we got all it takes,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
He further stated that it will take much sacrifice to develop Africa than to be content with the little it has at present.
“Me and you [sic] will never b [sic] able to enjoy the “well developed Africa” which is a sacrifice we have to make for generations to come but we’ve been programmed to live for the moment.
All we [sic] doing is stunting on ourselves. Then the spirit of entitlement sets in … but not willing to work for it,” he added.
Finally, he noted that African countries always get cowed by aid from more powerful countries and that has been inimical to the growth of the continent.
They have been using the [money] to keep us beneath just cos we love the safety of been given the [money] than been given the opportunity to learn how to make the [money].”
Sarkodie is one of the very opinionated Ghanaian musicians who have always used their mediums to tackle issues of social and national relevance.
Latest of his advocacy projects, is a song he did with Benji to help curb road accidents in Ghana.
