MTN-Ghana has presented Ghc 7,000.00, drinks as well as air-time worth Ghc 500.00 to the Bonwire Traditional Council to support the 2018 Bonwire Kente Festival.
The donation forms part of the company’s commitment to boosting creativity and entrepreneurial spirit which are associated with the festival.
MTN-Ghana will support the grand durbar, football match among other major events for the festival.
The company’s partners, Ashcell Limited, is also sponsoring a beauty pageant for the ladies of the town with cash prizes for the eventual winners as well as the first and second runner-ups totaling GHC 2, 300.00.
The festival, which is ongoing, will be climaxed with a grand durbar on Sunday with the rich Asante culture by the chiefs and people of the town and the Asante Kingdom.
Speaking at the Bonwire Chief’s Palace, Senior Commercial Manager for MTN-Northern Business District, Peter Bimpeh, said the festival along with its rich, colorful cultural heritage, continues to deepen the significance and history of the Kente cloth.
He added that the festival highlights the Economic empowerment focus area of the MTN Foundation, and the company’s association with the festival will help in attracting more customers closer to the community.
“We are here because MTN believes in developing the human resource base through education, health and economic empowerment, and has committed significant resources to these sectors. As a result, MTN has committed about 32 million cedis into over major 142 major projects nationwide to brighten the lives of about four million people from several communities”, he indicated.
The Bonwire Kente festival, which is in its twentieth year this year, has become a notable one with people travelling from all continents of the world to come and witness the glorious Kente designs the community puts on display during the celebrations.
The linguist for the Bonwirehene, Nana Kofi Kwarteng, who received a dummy cheque on behalf of the Chief of Bonwire thanked MTN for the gesture.
