The Ghana Tourism Authority is set to embark on a series of inspection exercises to sanitize the hospitality industry.
According to the Authority, the exercise which will travel throughout the year, is aimed at ensuring that hoteliers and restaurant operators provide quality services.
In an interview with Citi News, the Eastern Regional Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Frederick Adjei-Rudolph, said the Authority will use the inspection exercise to also educate players in the industry on standards.
“We as an organisation and a regulatory body are currently taking our annual inspections which are not only to pinpoint faults, but to educate and sensitize the operators and managers of these facilities. Our main focus during this exercise is to make sure we spend a lot of time on each of the units we will be inspecting, room to room. Gone are the days when we just sample rooms in a facility to inspect, but we are doing no such thing this year, if you are operating 100 rooms, we will inspect the 100 rooms”.
Frederick Adjei-Rudolph, also indicated that the Authority will follow up regularly to keep the facilities in check.
“We will go around the hotels with people in authority at the facilities, and make sure we point out all the wrongdoings at the facility to them and ensure the right things are done.”
“What we have also decided to do is that after the annual inspection, we will continue with spot checks regularly so that within the year or the first six months of the year, we would have visited all the facilities more than twice; and I am hoping I will get the logistics to do that because the more the hotels see you, the more they up their game and we are fully prepared as an Authority to ensure that the standard procedures are adhered to.”
