The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has learnt with shock, the killing by unknown assailants of Ahmed Hussein Suale, said to be a member of the investigative team of journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Mr. Suale reportedly died instantly after being shot in the chest and neck by gunmen who were reported to have sped away on motor bicycles after the act. The incident happened at around 11.pm (23:00 GMT) at Madina, a suburb of Accra. The body of Suale has been sent to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy.
The MFWA unreservedly condemns the killing and calls on the police to promptly and thoroughly investigate the incident to bring the perpetrators to book.
Ahmed Hussein Suale’s journalistic work with Anas Aremeyaw Anas has often seen him go undercover with his identity not known to many, but he was recently exposed by Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong in the aftermath of the #Number12 exposé on corruption in Ghana football.
The MP was seen on live TV urging people to beat him up if he was spotted close to his Net2 Television.
No link has been drawn between the MP’s call to violence and the Wednesday evening killing.
Anas, in a message on Facebook announced the death, saying Ahmed was hit three times; twice in the chest and once in the neck following which he died on the spot.
This is the third of such an incident in which an individual has been shot and killed by unknown assailants where nothing was taken from the deceased.
The most recent case was the killing of the Public Affairs Manager of the Tema Port, who was found stabbed and killed in her bedroom last Sunday.
