Forget about the State of the Nation address. Forget about the eloquence of President Nana Akufo-Addo. We all know eloquence doesn’t build a nation. Nonetheless, we appreciate uplifting seemingly sincere pledges to deal with the biggest threat to our most prized possession – peace and democracy – political party militias aka vigilante groups!
Forget about ex-President Mahama’s rather loose comment, calling President Akufo-Addo ‘the father of militant vigilantism’.
I mean even if his remark holds any truth, at a time where Mr. Mahama’s major contender has made a firm commitment to initiate processes to deal with political vigilantism, Mr. Mahama’s comments cast in the mind of any forward thinking Ghanaian, the image of an opportunistic and hypocritical leader who seeks to score political points for his parochial interest instead of a greater good – national cohesion and harmony.
Again we all know, President Akufo-Addo’s intended bipartisan talk party will come to nothing if he, his party and appointees in power do not desist from making the entirety of Ghana Police a toy in its ephemeral political hands.
Even though we all know, Mr. Mahama is a fine gentleman. Anyway, Mr. Mahama has done well by taking everyone’s attention off that pseudo-romantic photo of President Akufo-Addo and his wife, Madam Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
We are not too sure what exactly the two were trying to do, but any typical African child can relate to that awkward moment he or she bumps into his or her parents trying to experiment with some of the romantic scenes they see in moves.
The moment they see you, things fall apart! Things turn “gross and predatory”! Hello Nana Ama! You know this love is deep.
Mr. Mahama has succeeded in taking our attention away from “Addo Show Boy” and his wife. John, well done. Your statement is worth forgetting right away.
Again, let’s even forget the fact Prof. Alabi is not worried about running out of his make up ahead of the flag bearer contest.
His main concern is that Mr. Mahama is reportedly the man to feed and transport delegates across the country to polling stations. I am not sure we can call John, the father of vote buying yet.
Apparently, he has bought the entire national executives of the party many of whom are shamelessly advertising him ahead of his other aspirants on social media.
Never mind, John Mahama will win anyway. It’s astonishing to see Mr. Mahama is this desperate! Once again, forget that one too. But Prof. Alabi will have to swallow this bitter pill with his other colleagues who will battle for second, third and the other positions at the bottom.
Now let’s all celebrate a biiiiiiiiiig man, DSP Samuel Azugu, SWAT Commander at the National Security.
He may not be the ‘father of militant vigilantism’ even though he, his superiors and the entire institution of Ghana Police were ‘used’ by politicians to foment violence. Indeed, it wasn’t fun seeing policemen who bully us on the streets every day now tell us just how much of stooges they are in the hands of politicians.
In a spate of 4 hours, DSP Azugu invented a new cure for malaria – the Azugumosquito mask. I am not sure the ordinary Ghanaian can afford this mosquito repellant. No wonder his boss suggests he was not in the right frame of mind.
