The Presidency has described as baseless and libellous a recent publication in the Africa Watch magazine which accused President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway of attempting to purchase properties for the country’s newly opened Embassy in Oslo, the capital of Norway.
The magazine said government was attempting to buy two properties – one for the chancery and the other for the Ambassador’s residence at US$16.5 million.
A similar claim had been made by the Minority in Parliament several months back.
The Presidency in a statement however dismissed these claims.
“The allegations in the publication are baseless, libellous, and scurrilous, and contain nothing but manufactured lies. We are aware of this magazine’s notoriously established agenda of defaming the President through the deliberate publication of such false stories about him. The agenda will fail, as it has failed before.”
The statement said the publishers, editors and distributors of the publication will be dealt with in the “appropriate forum.”
