The Ofaakor District Police Command in the Central Region has arrested a 40-year-old man for attempting to sell two pistols with eight rounds of ammunition.
The suspect, Godwin Cudjo Hianyo was arrested in his hideout at Adom Estate near Akwele in the Central Region.
Speaking to Citi News in an interview, DSP Christopher Daker the Ofaakor District Police Commander explained that although the suspect admitted being in possession of the gun he claims he found them on his way home.
“He admitted being in possession of an illegal arm but he said the pistol fell from someone sitting on an Okada bike and he picked them up but we are yet to find out if it’s true but you know criminals will always give you a reason not to doubt them,” DSP Daker explained.
“The weapon is not like the locally manufactured pistol it is a foreign one and can fire 20 rounds”.
He explained that the Police acted upon intelligence information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
“We acted upon intelligence Information from some informants and that helped us arrest this suspect, “the Police Commander said.
DSP Christopher Daker indicated that Godwin Cudjo Hianyo will soon be arraigned.
“We are preparing to send him to court to answer charges of being in possession of an illegal firearm,” he said.
The Ofaakor District Police Commander also advised residents of Ofaakor not to hesitate to give information to the police to arrest criminals.
“The Police is a friend to all and so residents of Ofaakor must always volunteer to give information to the Police and this will help us fight crime,” the Police Commander.
