The 3rd edition of The Literacy Challenge has kicked off.
The challenge is a Citi FM initiative that seeks to engage students in solving societal issues through writing to improve their skills for a grand prize of GHC10, 000.
As part of activities to get students involved in the challenge, Citi FM and Citi TV on Wednesday started off with school engagement series in some schools in Accra.
The schools included the Alpha Beta Educational Centre in Dansoman and Christ The King International School.
The Topic for this year’s challenge is: “In recent Years, indiscipline on our roads has led to the loss of many lives. In light of this write an essay, suggesting ways to solve this problem, in order to help Ghana’s economy to grow and develop.”
The deadline for submission of entries is July 31, 2019.
Some of the students who spoke to Citi News expressed their excitement at the start of the competition.
Some also hailed this year’s topic adding that it is prudent Ghanaian students contribute their ideas on how the country stands to gain economically from curbing road accidents which often leads to loss of lives.
They said:
“I want every Ghanaian to see my point of view on how indiscipline we are on our roads and how we are able to rectify it.”
“It is a very good opportunity for students to express their thoughts on the safety of Ghanaians and how Ghana will develop economically.”
“It is a necessity for Ghanaians to be disciplined on the roads to avoid casualties.”
Christ the King’s Ayeyi Atta Kakra Anim-Addo wins 2018 Literacy Challenge
A student of the Christ the King International School in Accra, Ayeyi Atta Kakra Anim- Addo, emerged the overall winner of Citi FM’s 2018 Literacy Challenge held on October 6, 2018, at the Swiss Spirit Hotel & Suites Alisa hotel.
Ayeyi Atta Kakra Anim-Addo was the only Junior High School (JHS) Form 2 student among the 10 finalists.
He beat competition from nine others to win the ultimate prize.
The entries received from across the country will be shortlisted to 50.
The 50 will take part in an aptitude test and the number will further sieved to 10 who will take part in the grand finale.

Scripts must not be less than 600 words long. Scripts must be handwritten and endorsed by a parent or guardian.
