The Paramount chief of Upper Dixcove, Obrempong Hima-Dekyi, has denied claims he ordered the Sunday evening attack on the Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Akwasi Agyemang.
He also refuted reports he was on the run following the incident.
“It is never true. On the run for what? What offence have I committed? The police have my number,” Obrempong Hima-Dekyi said to Citi News.
He said he was at his home in Takoradi during the attack and the claims “remain an allegation”
He added that attempts to link him to the attack were “quite mischievous, preposterous adding that he “will not sit down for such things to happen.”
“My hands are clean in this. I have nothing to do with it.”
Despite his denials, Hima-Dekyi said he plans to report himself to the police command at Sekondi in the presence of his lawyer.
Assailants broke into his Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove’s palace after destroying his main gate with explosives.
He was then hauled off alongside some of his elders to an unknown location where they were beaten up.
Nana Akwasi Agyemang is currently on admission at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi with knife wounds.
The tensions are believed to be a disagreement between the Lower Dixcove and Upper Dixcove Paramount Chiefs over the boundary between the two paramountcies in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region.
Nana Akwasi Agyemang is a former Acting Western Regional House of Chiefs President.
The Western Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the incident.
