The Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly has warned residents in the area against breaking indiscrminate dumping of rubbish and littering as it begins strict implementation of its sanitation by-laws.
The MCE Aminu Mohammed said this is to help archieve President Akufo – Addo vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
He also said there is task-forces on the ground to enforce the by-laws, thus residents should comply with rules or face the brunt of the law.
The MCE Aminu Mohammed who spoke to Citi News said given that the area has become too big for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to manage, it is important for other assemblies to do their part in making the city clean.
“We are sensitizing the people in the community about the need to keep their environment and homes clean in line with the vision of the president to make Accra the cleanest city by the end of his term. We have formed a task force made up of everybody in the Assembly, all departments, including department head will have to join to move into various part of the community make sure the laws of sanitation are adhered to. Previously AMA was in charge of the Area but the Area is too big for AMA to Act effective but with the inception of the new Assembly we are able to manage the Assembly effectively, he said”
Years after the President’s announcement, many have criticized the President’s vision since no significant action has been undertaken to rid the city of the filth that has engulfed it.

The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources is hopeful that the President’s Akufo Addo’s dream will be achieved.
Sector minister, Cecelia Abena Dapaah, insisted that despite the current challenges, work is ongoing.
She affirmed that the president’s vision of transforming the city will be realized by the year 2020.
“It can, why not? The president is determined, and I am sure we are all determined. For instance, the Ministry would have to provide leadership, monitoring, evaluation and assessment in ensuring that everything is provided for the assembly and the contractors to work effectively.”
