A newspaper vendor has been confirmed dead after he was knocked down by a speeding vehicle carrying cartridges on the Legon-Okponglo road in Accra.
The deceased, only identified as Ebenezer, was knocked by the car which veered off the main road into a gutter.
Citi News’ Hanson Agyemang who was at the scene reported that the Legon Police command has commenced investigations into the incident.
Sources at the 37 Military Hospital confirmed the death of the newspaper vendor to Citi News.
The vendors who witnessed the accident, complained bitterly about the conduct of police personnel at the scene; accusing them of acting unprofessionally.
According to the eyewitness the police did not give the needed attention to the victim but focused on retrieving the cartridges.
His colleague vendors, who were at the scene, were moved to tears by the news of his death.
Contrary to reports by the eyewitnesses, the Police debunked the claims that they chased the car which was involved in the accident because its occupants were armed robbers.
This comes after cartridges were retrieved at the accident scene by the police.
According to Citi News sources at the Legon Police station, the persons in the car were licensed dealers of ammunition.
