A Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region, Cartious Aziedu has allegedly been assaulted by persons believed to be supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to eyewitness accounts, the NPP Youth Organiser in the Constituency, Wugah Mawutor, allegedly led a team of men to a local radio station, Dela Radio, on Saturday to kick out their representative from the studio.
This allegedly led to a brawl between the NPP members and the NDC Communications Director after it was discovered that the latter had recorded the incident.
Narrating the incident to Citi News, Emmanuel Kwame Atukpa said: “It was an issue between NPP members. So later the NDC Communicator who was in the studio was videoing what was happening [between NPP members] and somebody assaulted him.”
This incident is quite similar to several clashes between the members of the NDC and NPP.
Just recently there were clashes between the two parties at the Asokore Mampong Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission.
The incident resulted in injuries and destruction of properties.
Armed police and military officers were subsequently stationed at the centre.
