The Sunyani Post Office Branch of Fidelity Bank has gone to the aid of a nursing mother who was abandoned by her husband and was detained at the Neonatal Unit at the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital.
Twenty-four-year-old Mary Arthur whose baby was treated of bronchitis was discharged over a week ago but was detained because she could not pay the bill of GH₵400.00.
The Branch Manager of Fidelity Bank Sunyani Post Office, Samuel Ansu-Yeboah said they were touched by the plight of the nursing mother.
“We were touched by the situation and decided to come on board to support. We have paid all the bills, brought her a hamper and also given her GH₵500.00. She has been discharged so we put her in our car and sent her to Bechem – Nkwanta where she came from,” he said.
Mary Arthur in an interview with Citi News expressed joy for the love shown her by Fidelity Bank.
She said since she was transferred from the Bechem Government Hospital to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital, her husband never stepped foot there.
“I don’t know why he didn’t come. While on admission at Bechem, I told my husband that they have referred us to Sunyani. He is aware that we are here but he has never been here. When I delivered, food to eat was even a problem. I am so grateful to Fidelity Bank for what they have done for me because I have never seen such a thing before, ” she stated.
The Nurse Manager at the facility, Matilda Adjei Kyereme said they had to put their heads together as a staff to support her upkeep because she had nothing on her when she came to the facility.
