The Garden City University College (GCUC) and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) in the USA have partnered to boost academics of both institutions.
The partnership will see twelve (12) students of the GCUC undertake in-state tuition under an annual $1,000 scholarship which will be awarded to them.
The scholarship covers an annual tuition fee of $7,000.
Additionally, the UTRGV will also accommodate a ‘3+1+1’ programme with GCUC students which means that a GCUC student will take the first three years courses at GCUC and transfer to UTRGV to complete one year.
The student will transfer the one-year credits to GCUC and be awarded a GCUC degree by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The student will then continue at the UTRGV for one-year and be granted a Master’s degree.
Dean of Business School of the University College, Professor Opoku Afriyie said this during the University’s 2019/2020 matriculation ceremony of 770 freshers made up of 282 males and 488 females.
He added that the UTRGV has also agreed to collaborate with GCUC to run the following regular Master’s programmes including; MSN- Family Nurse Practitioner, MPAS- Master in Physician Assistant Studies, Master of Accountancy, MBA- Master of Business Administration, MSc. Computer Science and MSC. Information Technology.
The UTRGV and the GCUC, he added will run other online programmes including; MSN- Nursing Administration, MSN- Nursing Education, MSN- Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and MPAS- MS- Health Sciences with a concentration in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
The professor, during the address also said, “All these programmes will have their clinical components either in Ghana or in USA”.
The GCUC has also been granted one Presidential Graduate Research Assistantship for a 2-year graduate programme at the UTRGV.
He used the occasion to advise the freshmen to study hard to impact meaningfully in their lives.
He mentioned that the satisfaction and success of students remain the priority of the GCUC as measures, programmes and strategies are being put in place to ensure that every student gets the best academic experience, social experience and personal experience at the University.
