The Assembly Member of Adweso Estate Electoral Area, Rapchar Botchway has been elected as the new presiding member for the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly of the second assembly.
Rapchar Botchway who is only enjoying a second term after making history at Adweso Estate as the only member to be re-elected for the area had an easy task to be elected by assembly members after their inauguration earlier on Thursday beating a more experienced member Andrew Diabene, the assemblyman for Betom Adontia.
Out of the 47 assembly members who voted, Rapchar Botchway had 34 of the total votes while his opponent Andrew Diabene had 13 of the votes with 2 rejected ballots being recorded.
Addressing members after taking the oath of office which was supervised by Her Worship Mercy Addei Kotei, the Koforidua Circuit Court Judge, Rapchar Botchway assured that he will be impartial to all members of the assembly.
“First of all, I give thanks to the almighty God for how far he has brought us and appreciate all those who had faith in me and voted for me. My intentions are just simple and that is to move New Juaben South forward. I promise all gathered here in the name of God that I will be honest, respect all, in the discharge of my duties and the interest of the assembly will remain paramount”.
“The days of the heckles, setbacks and drawbacks drawing the development of New Juaben South backwards are over, we are going to work together, especially the trio which is the MCE, the coordinating director and the presiding member will work in unity and harmony to ensure the assembly moves forward in the right direction because if there is no unity among these three the assembly will be at a standstill which will definitely stall its development”.
He added, “I am making a promise today, a promise I intend to keep forever that I will make the interest of this municipality and assembly paramount and will never discriminate against anyone”.
