Host of the Citi Breakfast Show and General Manager of Citi FM/Citi TV, Bernard Koku Avle, will on Thursday, November 5, 2020 honour the 16th edition of the “Kronti ne Akwamu” (Democracy and Governance) lecture as guest speaker.
The event which is being spearheaded by governance think tank, the Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) is to highlight the role the media has played in enabling citizens to participate in Ghana’s democratic discourse in building a burgeoning democratic culture.
To this end, Mr. Avle will be speaking on the theme, “Radio, Rulers and the Ruled in the 4th Republic: 25 Years of an Evolving Relationship in a Democracy”.
Hinged on the powers of the 1992 Constitution which mandates the media to hold government accountable to the citizenry, the discussion will also centre on the contributions of private commercial media in shaping Ghana’s democratic journey and how such credentials have been upheld over the past two decades and a half.
The lecture will come off at the Alisa Hotel at 5:00 pm.
Interested participants are to contact 0244 350 266 to book a seat.
The ‘Kronti ne Akwamu’ Lecture is CDD-Ghana’s flagship annual public lecture on democracy and governance.
It is one of the Center’s initiatives which seeks to bridge the gap between ideas, research and analysis on one hand, and pro-democracy and good governance advocacy on the other.
It is thus, aimed at enriching the quality of public discourse on democratic and governance reforms.
The lecture features prominent scholars and or activists of local and international repute whose work focus on democracy building and fostering good governance.
Speakers are invited to share knowledge and insights on these issues, in the hope of stimulating vibrant public debate.
‘Kronti ne Akwamu’ is an Akan Adinkra symbol that best represents democracy, duality of the essence of life, and interdependence.
The symbol encapsulates a system of decentralized political authority with different branches of government complementing and also checking each other.
