The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has assured the family of a supporter who was killed in a car crash on Sunday of the party’s support.
40-year-old Mariana Akango Isa from Kamgbunli in the Ellembelle Constituency of the Western Region was killed by a vehicle during a campaign walk by the party.
The incident also left over 20 other supporters injured.
But, during a visit to console the family of the deceased after visiting the injured at the Eikwe Catholic Hospital, General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the party is deeply saddened by the incident.
“I heard about the unfortunate incident leading to the loss of our dear one with many others injured. Once this affects the NDC, we have to come and commiserate with the family. I have called the flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama, and he will in due time, he will also come and commiserate with the family.”
Mr. Nketia also encouraged the party’s supporters to campaign for a win in honour of the deceased and the injured.
“She died when she was fighting for the party so her death should not be in vain. Let’s work hard and win the election and honour her with it. We will also ensure that her children are taken care of. We will foot all the bills and the party will also outline what plans we have to support the family”, he added.
About 30 supporters of the NDC were part of a campaign walk from Essiama heading towards Ayinase in the Ellembelle constituency when they were hit by a vehicle on Sunday, November 22, 2020.
The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah suspended his campaign activities to sympathize with his supporters as a result.
The incident occurred a day after six members of the party also died with others injured in a road crash at Frante, a community within the Ejura Sekyeredumasi municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The supporters were heading to Ejura to a rally being attended by the flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama who was on a campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.
