The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, Ernest Henry Norgbey, says the party in his constituency will keep protesting until the Electoral Commission corrects its purportedly error-ridden presidential results.
The action undoubtedly follows the mother party’s rejection of the outcome of the December 7 polls.
Speaking to some NDC supporters during a protest march within the constituency, the MP said the verdict as declared by the EC is flawed.
According to the legislator, he together with his supporters will therefore protest daily to show their disapproval of the election results.
“We just organised ourselves to do a peaceful demonstration to show Ghanaians that the people of Ashiaman will not sleep for the incompetence of Jean Mensa to steal the verdict for Nana Akufo-Addo. That is what we are witnessing today, that we want our votes to be counted.”
“We want our seats; Sene East, Techiman South, and the other seats that were stolen from us back before we get the peace that we want in Ghana. We have all been preaching peace, so why is it that after an election, results are announced for there to be chaos. It means that something untoward happened,” he explained.
The NDC has stated that the election was flawed and that it does not recognise incumbent President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the rightfully elected President of Ghana.
The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu said: “We roundly reject and outrightly reject the declaration of the sitting president as the winner of the 2020 elections. In due course, our flagbearer will brief the nation and the international community”.
We won’t accept fictionalized results
Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama has already expressed his strong refusal to accept President Akufo-Addo’s election victory.
Described the election results announced by the EC as “fictionalised”, Mr. Mahama said the party will audit the outcomes of the poll to inform its next step adding that the EC must ensure to keep data used for the election for one year in accordance with the law.
“In order not to leave any further infractions unaccounted for, the NDC will continue its meticulous audit of all presidential pink sheets to ensure that the verdict of the people is upheld. These steps will surely lead to our next line of actions within the constraints of our democratic governance process. We want to send a caution to the EC that in line with Regulation 47 of CI 127, they should ensure that election data is preserved for a year, after elections”, he said.
Mr. Mahama has vowed that the party will do all it can to ensure that it secures a majority of the country’s parliamentary seats.
He said the party has currently identified five constituencies that are under siege by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who are seeking to overturn the NDC’s victories there.
Announcing his decision not to accept the Electoral Commission’s declared results of the 2020 polls at the NDC’s headquarters in Accra, Mr. Mahama said the party is deploying a team of lawyers and party officials from Accra to support and build the capacities of the said constituencies to ensure that the party’s parliamentary victories are secured.
