The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Members of Parliament have challenged the Electoral Commission (EC) to publish the Techiman South constituency Collation Sheets as evidence of the Commission’s resolution of the contention over the seat.
The NDC Minority Caucus at a press conference on Tuesday presented its copies of polling station pink sheets based upon which it says it won the parliamentary seat contrary to the Electoral Commission’s claim that the NPP candidate won the seat.
NDC MP for Ningo Prampram, Samuel Nartey George in a Citi News interview dared the Electoral Commission to publish its collation sheets to prove the NDC wrong.
“The EC is running away from publishing the constituency collation sheet, simply because they have not done any collation. We have our pink sheets. We challenge the EC, led by Jean Mensa and Bossman Asare to publish the collation sheets.”
“Do not forget that our General Secretary led a high powered delegation to Techiman South, met with the constituency collation officer who said he had submitted the sheets to the Regional Officer, he, in turn, deny receiving it. The EC has not declared a winner because they have still not published any winner on their website,” he added.
The NDC insists that its parliamentary candidate, Christopher Bayere Baasongti is the legitimate winner of the Techiman South constituency seat in the just-ended parliamentary elections.
The party says it won that election by 293 votes.
Although the EC has declared the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, the winner, the NDC said the Commission’s declaration is flawed and illegal.
According to the NDC, there was no collation of results and so the EC’s announcement of the NPP candidate is victor threatens Ghana’s enviable democracy hence its rejection of the results.
The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu at a press conference on Tuesday accused the government of “working to deny the NDC a parliamentary majority.”
According to the party, data available to them indicates that the NDC secured 50,306 votes against the NPP’s 50,013 with 919 rejected ballots.
According to the opposition party, the 293 vote margin makes Christopher Bayere the winner of the parliamentary elections.
