The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region says it will continue to demonstrate against the Election Commission (EC) to express its dissatisfaction about 2020 General election results.
According to the party, the EC wrongfully declared Nana Akufo-Addo as President-elect despite evidence to the contrary and in favour of the party’s John Mahama.
During a demonstration at Sogakope on Tuesday December 29, 2020, Second Vice Chairman of the NDC, George Loh, said the party will not rest on its oars until its concerns are addressed.
“We are demonstrating to express our unwillingness to accept the election results. We believe that the demonstrations have been effective so far and we are going to drum home our concerns until the right thing is done.”
Mr. Loh further said the NDC is hoping that the courts will be fair and serve justice when the party makes an official application.
“Majority of people believe that justice will be served NDC because of recent history, even in the face of overwhelming evidence. But we will not give up on the court and therefore we will go ahead to seek justice.”
Meanwhile, in Accra, the Regional Police Command has secured a restraining order against the NDC, banning it from embarking on further protests and demonstrations in Accra.
Responding to this, a member of the opposition party’s legal team, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe said the party cannot be denied its right to protest.
