A member of the National Communication Team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Wonder Madilo is not convinced with the reason the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) gave for recent power outages in the country.
He believes the explanation is a cock-and-bull story.
“It is reality that is catching up with this government. Since they came to power, they haven’t paid particular attention to the energy sector, and here we are with dumsor. They’ve run the sector with lies up until now. The excuses coming from GRIDCo and blaming the recent outages on technical challenges are just fabricated stories to cover up their leadership failure,” he said on Citi TV‘s Breakfast Daily show on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
GRIDCo had attributed recent intermittent power cuts experienced in Ghana to some faulty transmission lines as well as scheduled maintenance works.
The power transmission company has hinted of plants to release a loadshedding timetable to allow engineers working on the country’s transmission lines to complete their work.
Corporate Communications Manager for GRIDCo, Ebenezer Amankwah told Citi News that the loadshedding timetable is based on requests from many contractors expected to carry out the maintenance works on power stations, bulk supply points among others.
“There are a plethora of projects ongoing currently to resolve inherent challenges in the distribution and transmission aspects of the power production value chain. The transmission lines, sub-stations, bulk supply points etc. These projects are scattered across the country; we have some in Accra, some in Kumasi among others,” he said.
But Mr. Madilo will not take such explanations blaming the current outages on “leadership failure”.
