The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Prof. Alex Dodoo, has said it is extremely important for entrepreneurs to be concerned about the role of standardization in their businesses if they seek to excel.
According to him, standardization is “the language of trade”. Prof. Alex Dodoo was speaking on the theme ‘Doing Business In Ghana As An MSME‘ on Citi TV, as part of this year’s virtual fora of the Citi Business Festival.
He explained that standardization brings value to both the seller and the buyer in a market, and ensures value for money for both parties.
Prof. Dodoo added that any business that “consistently” fails to provide the needed standard to its clients or customers risks losing them.
“It is true that a lot of businesses do nothing to think about the standards at all until they start processing, but if you are doing business, and you want to expand your business by selling more and attracting more customers, then, you need to be certified by us”.
“Anybody buying a service, a commodity, or goods, is looking for value, and that value is normally defined in terms of a standard. They want a requirement, and if you don’t provide that requirement consistently, people will not buy your product any longer. So at the end of the day, we say that standard is the language of trade.”
The other speakers for the week two discussion included Yofi Grant; the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GIPC, Dr. Abdallah Ali Nakyea; Senior Lecturer of the University of Ghana Law School, Grace Anim Yeboah; Director of Business Banking, Absa Bank Ghana, and Jemima Oware; the Registrar General, who joined the discussion via zoom alongside Professor Alex Dodoo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Standards Authority.
