PharmAccess Foundation, in collaboration with the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), has launched an initiative to provide affordable medicines for Ghanaians.
Dubbed “Accessing finance for CHAG facilities on Med4All,” the initiative seeks to provide an interim solution for health facilities to enable them pay suppliers for medicines they procure through the Med4All platform which is a digital medicine supply chain platform set up by CHAG with the support of PharmAccess Foundation.
This CHAG-driven initiative is to mitigate the negative effects of COVID-19 on health service delivery in general and access to essential medicines in particular for patients served by CHAG health facilities.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, the Chief Executive of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) Peter K. Yeboah said “With CHAG being the biggest non-state actor in health, we believe that access to affordable health facilities is the pathway in fulfilling our mission of providing quality health services to the poor, and needy in the society”.
“…The financing mechanism for all CHAG member institutions is intended to remove the financing barrier in the procurement, distribution, prescription and dispensing of medicines to our clients, especially those in the hinterlands. With this particular revolving fund, we will assure our member institutions that we are enhancing our health system, the capacity to be responsive and resilient, and we want to complement government’s efforts in the provision of essential health services amidst the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic that is wrecking a lot of havoc around the world,” the CEO concluded.
According to the Country Director of PharmAccess, Dr Maxwell Akwasi Antwi, the project will also cut down turnaround time in acquiring medicines for healthcare delivery.
“PharmAccess is an international organization that focuses on how we can use digital technology to improve access to basic healthcare for people in Ghana and Africa and some parts of Asia”.
“What we seek to do is use the power of digital technology to improve access to basic healthcare. We do this in two trenches, first by looking at the demand side of health which is by health insurance and also the supply side which is all geared towards improving the health system in Ghana,” he added.
