Two minors have been burnt to death in a domestic fire outbreak at Moshie Zongo, a suburb of the Kumasi metropolis.
The fire, which started at about 8 am on Tuesday, swept through a chamber and hall in a compound house.
The two children, Tahir Alhaadar and Salamatu Alhaadar who were sleeping in the apartment were consumed by the fire.
Although the cause of the fire is not yet known, occupants of the house blamed the incident on a connection done in newly installed prepaid meters in the house.
Speaking to Citi News, the father of the deceased children, Alhaadar Hafiz, stated that they found out their room was on fire from a child his wife had sent to bring their baby from the room.
“I woke up around 8 am and went straight to brush my teeth. While I was brushing my teeth, I could hear my wife saying she had an inkling that the baby was crying, so she sent an older child to go and check on the baby. The child came back to report that the room had caught fire, but when I got there I realised that the room had been burning for a while. I rushed into the room to try and get the children out, but I was not able to do so. I felt burns on my hands when I came out of the room. Because the room was smoky, I had a hard time finding my way out. I told my wife that we had lost the kids, so we needed to concentrate on quenching the fire.”
